After a congregational trip to Independence, MO., in the spring of 1996, to tour, worship in the Temple, and view the gardens around the Temple, those in attendance discussed the possibility of creating our own Peace Garden. Since we had over two acres, we knew that space would not be a problem. After further discussions with other members of the branch, we found that there was a
very supportive attitude. Sadly, however not much progress was made at that time.
One of our members who had moved away and gotten married, Darcy Blair, had returned to Louisville with her husband, Alex Andriuk. Darcy became ill and was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on January 1, 1997. Due to her love of floral gardens, her parents, Dave & Joyce Blair, brought forth the concept of creating a "Scripture Garden" on the property. After much discussion
as to location and size and approval by the Forest Hills Community, ¼ of an acre was set aside and the garden became a reality, and was dedicated in May of 1998.
Today the garden is visited almost daily by a number of people and has been the site of weddings, baby blessings, outdoor services as well as summer garden concerts. With over 20 bronze scripture plaques, mounted on stones, located throughout the garden and several different seating areas,
most find it a restful place to meditate
The garden is available to everyone and arrangements for its use can be made by contacting the Church office at 267-5508. We hope that you have the opportunity to visit with us, meanwhile; we hope that you enjoy the pictures presented here.
